My dad had the right idea

Growing up, on special occasions, my dad would always say if it wasn't on the table at breakfast it didn't count. That meant for birthdays, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter, any day a card or gift were given (except Christmas, because those went under the tree) it had to be on the table in the morning. That's one rule my dad had that I think is worth enforcing!

What would be the consequences if there was such an infraction?

Present probation?
No return presents required?
No breakfast served for a month?
Butler for a day (Seinfeld jury)
