Oh the Weather Outside is Frightful

We're out of firelogs, so I can't say the fire is sure delightful!
I guess I am one of the few that was thrilled when school was cancelled today, and honestly, I'm hoping it will be cancelled tomorrow as well! The alarm went off at 3:15 this morning so Adam could leave for the airport at 4:00. When his ride arrived, he came back in to show me the snow. I got on the computer, and there was no news of school closures - great! I HATE driving down our hill in the snow! An hour later, I was still awake and checked again - no school YEAH!!
I don't know how much we had, but when I went out to get the newspaper it was covered so for a few minutes I thought our paper deliverer couldn't get up our hill.
Around 4:00, we braved the roads and were able to get some rations - eggs for the boys and beer for me (we all have our coping mechanisms). While it hasn't started snowing again, we still have plenty on the ground and on our road, so if it's as cold as they say it's going to be, we'll be stuck up on the hill for another day of "family time".
But, I was able to get laundry washed, folded and put away, as well as do some work on the auction, which otherwise would have gone undone, or be left until tonight when the boys are in bed.

The fish who lived

So, I don't mean to toot my own horn, but amazingly enough, one of our fish is still alive! It was pointed out to me by some of the guys in the youth group, that it must be Harry who is still alive, because, after all, he was the boy who lived, so it's only fitting that the last one standing is Harry - the fish who lived.
There is no rhyme, nor reason behind it, but after almost a week, we have a fish that is alive and swimming around in our tank! The funny thing is, the type of fish we bought seem to like living in schools, and well, this one has done just fine on it's own. Who knows!

Another One Bites the Dust

Yes, a mere 24 hours later, 2 of the new fish (I think Ron and Harry, because we know how strong and smart Hermione is) are dead. They are now floating in my tupperware dish with a sample of the water to be taken back to the pet store tomorrow.

Welcome to Hogwarts

As I mentioned a few posts ago, the boys received an aquarium for Christmas. Darth Vadar was purchased and lasted 3 days. The volcano in the aquarium was much like the lava pit in Star Wars (although, I realize that was Darth Maul, not Vadar); somehow Darth Vadar got stuck in the volcano and that was the end of him. He never did swim straight after that. It was a sort of Nemo moment, you know, swim to the light...
Anyway, we waited a few days, kept the pump running, put some chemical or another in the tank, and tried to "prep" our tank a bit further for the arrival of more fish. Since today was MLK day and the boys didn't have school, I told them that today was the day and we could go get another fish. Thornley of course wanted to get another black molly and have Vadar the 2nd, but Jack insisted it was his turn to pick a fish and it would be Harry. After the movie we met Adam at the pet store. He got there a few minutes before us and had researched, as only Adam can, the different types of fish (other than a Beta) that would do well in our tank. Harry, Ron, and Hermione now live on our bathroom counter. Hopefully these will last a bit longer, but the guy told me today to keep our receipt, and if the fish die in 15 days or less to bring in the dead fish and a sample of our water (a shame really, since the boys like to have a ceremony and bury the fish).
Oh, and we bought a $65 brush that they've guaranteed will cut way down on our dog hair issue. I'll keep all you dog owners posted on that one!

Cutest Kid EVER

My Jack, he is a cutie. Today we're in the car on the way to the movies and he asks, "Does Jesus live in here?" pointing to his tummy.
"No, Jesus lives in your heart, but remember how I told you, you have to ask Him to live there?"
"Oh, yeah, plug your ears mommy".
So I do, somewhat, but not enough that I couldn't hear his cute little voice...
"Hi Jesus, do you want to live in my heart?"
I asked Jack what Jesus told him, and he said, "He said OK".

My dad had the right idea

Growing up, on special occasions, my dad would always say if it wasn't on the table at breakfast it didn't count. That meant for birthdays, Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter, any day a card or gift were given (except Christmas, because those went under the tree) it had to be on the table in the morning. That's one rule my dad had that I think is worth enforcing!

Allow me to introduce myself

Tomorrow is our anniversary. We've been married 8 years, that's 2,920 days (plus a few more for leap years along the way), so I find it odd that the husband and I had the following conversation the other night...

"I hope your anniversary gift arrives on time; I'm pretty excited about it" - me
"Oh, are we doing gifts this year? We hadn't discussed giving gifts" - him

So I turned to him and said, " Allow me to introduce myself, I'm Meghan, your wife."

Me, not give a gift, come on now!

The testosterone of it all

The boys received an aquarium for Christmas, so we finally got around to getting them a fish. We brought Darth Vader home on Friday and when he is done acclimating to the tank, we will go to the store and purchase Harry Potter.
Today was a long day for us, and after swim lessons we had to meet Adam at Starbucks and drop something off for him. Convenient that this particular Starbucks was right next to a grocery store because we also had to grocery shop. On the other side of the grocery store is a party store, so we went in to see if I could find anything for an upcoming bridal shower. Jack found Hedwig, Harry's owl and begged for it. So, Hedwig in tow we went to the grocery store, where the boys told me that Hedwig is a boy, and the only girl allowed in the house is me. Other than that it's all boys, all the time.
Great!
On a side note, Thornley is doing awesome with his swim lessons. He's moving up to the next level (ie - knows how to float on his own) when he starts his next round of lessons.

Wishful Thinking

The past few days it's been hard for me to workout; what with The Vominator and then disinfecting from The Vominator, I just haven't had the time or energy to hop on the old treadmill. If only laundry was an aerobic activity, I'd be a size 0! Deep sigh...

What's in a name?

Do you think God knew, when I named my blog, that I would have a day like today? My day can be summed up in two words (well, three, if you count the word and), that really, when you think about it go hand in hand. Those faint of heart might not want to read further...
Puke and laundry, yep, that's right it's 9:00 and I just put the last load in. Today at breakfast Thornley said his tummy hurt, whatever, he complains of that from time to time when he drinks his juice too fast, or the inevitable, he has to poop. So we kind of blew him off, and I told him if he'd hurry and get ready we'd go to Starbucks for chocolate milk on the way to school. This seemed to perk him up, as did the few minutes of the Harry Potter game we played.
We get in the car, everyone buckled in and we're off. We don't get to the bottom of the hill and Thornley pukes (good thing the lunch bag only cost $1 - it was the first thing in the trash can when we got home). We get home and he changes into his beloved halloween costume and is running around the house, not acting sick at all. That didn't last long! Between the hours of 9 a.m., and about 3 p.m. massive amounts of vominating (Thornley's word, and very fitting in this situation) occurred. Poor guy - and poor me, by 3:00 I felt like I had been up for 2 days straight! Cori and Jen both ran errands for me; Jen first getting 7-Up and Gatorade for Thornley (and coming to a slow roll and throwing it towards the door to avoid any possible germs),and then Cori to get me a much needed Diet Coke - grocery shopping was on my list of things to do today. Hallelujah for helpful friends!! Hope I don't need to repay the favor - if you know what I mean.
No way to tell that story creatively and I'm far too tired to be funny. The puke has stopped for now, and since he wanted to sleep in his own bed, hopefully it will stay that way for all our sakes (especially Jack on the bottom bunk). And if what I hear is true about this lovely disease, I ran to the grocery store tonight to get more toilet paper because we were running low (if you get my drift).
Now I'm praying that none of the rest of us catch it. Jack was a huge help getting my gloves whenever I needed to clean anything up, and when he'd hear Thornley do the "I'm going to puke" cough, he'd run into the room and yell at him, "Do it in the bucket, get it all in the bucket".
As soon as the sheets come out of the dryer and I make the sixth bed of the day (pretty amazing, when you consider we only use 3 beds), I'm there, hoping and praying no one vominates for a VERY LONG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Should I feel guilty, or should I gloat?

For weeks before Christmas I would call the Keene's and strategize with Mike over how we were going to find a Wii for the Keene family Christmas gift. I was even willing to get up at 5:30 on a Sunday morning and sprint thru Target to obtain the Christmas present on, apparently, everyone's Christmas list. As it ends up, the Keene's did get a Wii, from some random person neither one of us knows. A friend of Mark's has the Nintendo account at work, so called in a favor or some such thing, and the Keene's are now the proud owners of a Wii.
We went over to their house for New Year's Eve to experience happ-wii-ness, and watch Super Bad. We had fun, the Wii was fun, Super Bad was FUNNY (if you like jr high/high school humor - which hello, we love). On the way home we had the Wii discussion; do we want one, if so when/what occasion would we get it for, etc.
The next day I woke up feeling as if I'd gone to the gym, my arm was so sore from boxing (and beating) Adam. And Adam was gloating over his conquests on some Rabbit game we played.
So, today the boys and I are at Target shopping for an upcoming bridal shower I'm hostessing, and I hear some woman on her cell phone telling a friend how Target has Wiis, and she just bought one. The boys asked to look at toys and since I was making them dig thru the 75% off racks for snowflakes for my shower, I thought it the least I could do to take them to look at toys. We're back in the toy section and I see a guy in a red shirt and ask, "So do you have any Wiis left?" He replied yes, they had one left, go the final big shipment in today and had one left he was about to put out.
I wasn't even looking, I didn't have to get up at 5:30, and I wasn't shopping for the Keene's! So I bought it, because you KNOW that when we finally decided to get one, there would be none to be found!
Dancing with the Stars here I come!!
